Lydia Ziemke
After studying Classics and running the Gilded Balloon Studio Ensemble in Edinburgh for three years, Lydia completed LAMDA’s Directing Programme in 2003/2004. Since then she has been dividing her time between London and Berlin as a freelance director and dramaturg, amongst others closely associated with a theatre in West London and the Schaubühne in Berlin, as artistic collaborator, director of staged readings and dramaturg. In 2009 she has assisted Ramin Gray and Mark Ravenhill at the Royal Court Theatre, was dramaturgical assistant at the Schaubühne, Berlin, took part in the International Forum of the Berliner Theatertreffen and was International Coordinator at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Later that year she directed Dea Loher's LAND WITHOUT WORDS which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival and toured through the uk, to France, Berlin and Bosnia. In 2010, in London, she has curated the Divided Skies Season at Soho Theatre for the Fall of the Wall anniversary and directed Anne Rabe’s Sunflowerhouse (18109 Lichtenhagen). Lydia is the awardee for Germany in the British Council’s pilot year of Cultural Leadership International. In this context she concluded a tour of theatre festivals and workshops in the Arab world. Many current projects have their origin in these travels. For example in October 2010 she co-directed the Gaza Monologues at the Schaubühne Berlin in cooperation with ASHTAR Theatre Ramallah/Gaza and the International version at La Mama Theatre and the UN Headquarters in New York.
In 2011 she is assistant director for the Gaza Monologues at Deutschland Radio Kultur (to be broadcast in January 2012) and artistic collaborator for "Eye for an Eye" with Ruud Gielens for IN TRANSIT at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
She is currently working on two projects: WAR ZONE/STATIC - texts by Dea Loher and Chris Thorpe and LILA RISIKO SCHACHMATT - Neue Stücke aus Syrien, Palästina, Ägypten und Marokko mitten in Berlin-Neukölln.
